DrumSmart LLC provides PlayShops, professional and personal development, camps/classes utilizing group drumming, creating music, project-based learning, mindfulness in music, and drumming for recreation and wellness.

Percussion lessons are taught online and in-person by K. Michelle Lewis aka Yeshima, and are taken on a limited schedule. Areas of percussion that I specialize in are:

Take a trip around the world as we explore the instruments, rhythms, songs, and cultures of Brazil, Mediterranean, Ireland, Cuba, and West Africa. This class will be taught in-person or on Zoom.

Djembe Journey
In this class, K. Michelle Lewis aka Yeshima will take participants on a journey to Guinea, Africa. Participants will learn the basics of the West African musical traditions of Guinea. Students will learn traditional rhythms on Djembe and Dununs, as well as the songs that accompany them. We will also discuss the history and meaning of the songs and the purposes for their performance in the Guinean culture. We will learn basic drumming techniques, call and response, drum signals, and the repetition of simple patterns that culminate into a high-energy drumming ensemble. This PlayShop is accessible for ages 11-adults.

Drum Circle Facilitator Training
In this 3-hour training, you will be introduced to key elements of (in-person) drum circle facilitation methods, rhythm fundamentals, drumming techniques, and how to host your own rhythm events. Participants will also have an opportunity to practice the facilitation techniques during the class, and learn about the researched benefits of the community drum circle.

Drum N Yoga
TUNE INTO your true nature, the innate RHYTHM and BEATS of the HEART through movement and drumming. Heather Sanden of Costa Rica will lead participants in a juicy heart opening flow while Yeshima attunes to the rhythm of the heart and movement of the energies in the space. Sound Stories
In this 1-hour PlayShop, students will explore the musical elements of rhythm, dynamics, and tempo. Using percussion instruments and voice, we will explore sound effects that represent characters in stories from around the world.

Rhythms of Nature
In this Playshop, students will explore drumming the 4 elements of Earth, Fire, Air, and Water, sing songs honoring the four elements, and create rhythms of nature through spoken word that will culminate in a collection of original songs. Bucket Drumming
In this 1 hour PlayShop, students will learn the basics of bucket drumming by learning how to hold the drumsticks, strike the drum, improvise, and read rhythms. Upon completion of the class, participants will also be able to play a piece of music together and create an arrangement of their favorite popular song. Percussion That Pops
Percussion That Pops is a workshop that teaches students how to play pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments with popular music they know and love. Students will learn techniques on hand drums, drum set, piano, xylophones, tambourines, maracas, and more. This PlayShop is accessible to students in grades 3-8. Mindful Drum PlayShop
Drum your way to a peaceful state of being. In this workshop, participants will learn how to focus their mind in the present moment by drumming rhythms that connect with their heart center. Through intention setting, breathing, and drumming participants will use their natural rhythm intuition to achieve a higher state of awareness which will result in oneness, increased brain activity, improved immune system function, enhanced mood, and more. Reiki Drumming
Experience the ancient healing effects of Shamanism and Usui Reiki. In this session I use the divine wisdom inherent in Reiki energy to merge with the sound waves of the drum that will sink more deeply into the clients energy field. This facilitates heightened physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies while raising the vibration of energies to a level that may allow the body to accelerate healing. Community Drum Circle
Community Drum Circles are held each month all over the world. We hold drum circles at Churches, Community Centers, Parks, city sidewalks, yoga festivals, music festivals and more. Please contact drumsmart101@gmail.com if you would like to include a community drum circle at your next event. All ages and abilities are welcome. Drums are provided.
DRUM CIRCLES FOR RECREATION
Drum Circles are great for birthday parties, family reunions and other recreational events. The purpose of the recreational drum circle is to have fun and play drumming games that bring joy to participants.
